Showing the "golden" areas we have installed
With just some 150 days to go till the 2012 London Olympics get under way in July and then a 190 days till the Paralympics start in August, all the building works are reasonably on schedule, of course there will be the usual last minute panics and rushes but all in all, the works on the Olympic site are pulling together.
Athletes from far and wide will soon be streaming to Stratford, London to begin training and testing the facilities, so life in the Olympic Parks is soon set to get a little more hetic.

A Truly Impressive Building
With all this industrious labour under way, to meet ever nearing dead lines, CCE Surfacing has managed to exceed all expectations. Under the guidance of Mike Sugg M.D. of CCE Surfacing, the crews have managed to lay thousands of square metres of resin bonded surfacing; not forgetting the acrylic sealant (which has to “cure off” over night.) This sealant is installed before the bonded aggregate can be laid.

Every week we have been blessed with fairly settled weather albeit very cold, it has stayed dry, to keep on schedual we pray it stays dry till need to be finished in April.
CCE Driveways were asked to solve a troublesome ”puddling” problem on our clients driveway. The original surface had had many years of loose shingle added to it, this stone, over years had crushed and there was no where for any water to drain too. The levels of the drive caused water to run back to the house and sit in the middle of the parking area.

Mike Sugg, MD and Estimator of CCE Driveways paid a visit and advised the clients that firstly the drainage needed to be addressed, we would then be able to tackle the surfacing. Our remit was to “dig out” the existing loose shingle, down to a level that we could install land drainage to form a soak-away. It was found that the old pre- war clay pipes had broken and collapsed thus adding to the problem these were replaced with new plastic drain pipes. The pipes were laid so that excess water could drain freely to the flower beds.

A low retaining wall was built for the flower beds using locally sourced “Cotswold” Stone. Careful attention was paid to levels when re-instating the Type 1 sub base and Tarmacadam, to ensure the water drained away correctly. The clients were delighted. The results, no puddling water even after the heaviest of rain falls.
We intend to return to complete the surfacing with the resin bound system, hopefully in the near future. Resin Bound Surfacing was recommended to the clients as it’s compliant with “SUDS” in layman’s terms it’s “semi-porous”, also importantly, almost maintenance free, unlike a loose shingle drive!
Working close to home is always nice but working in the lovely old town of Bradford on Avon is especially nice.

Galliford Try of Swansea requested CCE Driveways to install the resin bonded surface to the newly built retail and residential premises at Kingston Mills. It was a derelict site in the centre of the historic market tow. The site and surroundings had many planning constraints to be overcome. As the site is built along side of the River Avon the choice of aggregate lent it self to a more rounded stone, CCE Driveways recommended Brittany Bronze. The sub-straight was concrete installed by others. When the concrete surface had been hydrated adequately CCE Driveways then laid the resin bonded surface to approximately 1,000 square metres of paths and walkways.

Landscaping to the apartments is yet to be completed but the pathways looked very pleasing and sensitive to the new buildings and surroundings. The new area will be a most needed asset to the lovely town of Bradford on Avon in Wiltshire.
CCE Driveways has started the new year with a BANG!! With our surfacing works to the 2012 Olympic Aquatics Centre and the Velodrome, the 2012 Olympic cycle track now complete, work has recommenced on the “Athletes Village ”. CCE Driveways under the tenacious leadership of Mike Sugg MD has now been awarded resin surfacing works for three of the main contractors on the Olympic site:
Spade Oak Construction Limited – 16,000 square metres
Skanska – 40,000 square metres
Gavin Jones Limited – 3,000 square metres
With more works coming on line all the time, it looks to a very busy time for CCE Driveways! The organising of supplies and materials, let alone getting crews and company vehicles through the very rigorous security in place on the Olympics sites is proving to be a logistical nightmare.
The weather has helped, every day we pray for dry weather. Bad weather will be the only “fly in the ointment” as this will delay us from completing the resin surfacing, it is weather dependant.
There is nothing CCE Driveways likes better than working close to home and working on a project the requires complete rebuilding. Mike Sugg M.D. of CCE Surfacing advised the clients, Mr & Mrs Ten-Holter of their options and worked with their ideas to re-landscape their driveway.

CCE Driveway’s remit was to install a driveway which is easily maintained and aesthetically pleasing as the property is in a conservation area.

CCE Driveway firstly had to excavate grass and subsoil from the existing grassed area to the front of the house. A low stone retaining wall was built to either side of the driveway. Drainage pipes, channels and a soak-away were added. To the front and side of the garage the client required CCE Surfacing to lay Yorkstone slabs, and to the newly widened gateway we install new posts and gate. Electric ducting was added should lighting be required.

A Tarmac surface was laid onto a Type 1 sub-base ready to take the final phase of the project the resin bonded surface. The clients chose the resin bonded option as the driveway is on quite an incline. The textured finished surface of the resin surface would help with anti-slip in icy conditions. The aggregate chosen by the client was a rounded stone called Brittany Bronze. The end result was exactly the finish the clients wanted, they were delighted.
Rupert Brook House, Rugby
CCE Driveways were very pleased to be asked to work for the Rugby School and undertake the ground- works and resin bonded surfacing to Rupert Brooks House, which belongs to the World famous Rugby School. We have worked for the School in the past on a few of their other properties, and feel a sense of pride at being asked to partake in further projects.

CCE Driveway’s solution to the problem drive, was to do some substantial ground-works to the driveway before the surface could be resin bonded. This involved excavating the top surface which consisted of loose gravel, crushed and compacted by years of use. New grey granite sets were laid to edges of the driveway and around the planters, and an ugly slab of concrete needed to be broken out. This concrete formed part of the opening to the old coal hole, to ensure no mishaps the cellar was re-inforced with acro props while the slab was excavated. The slab took some getting out but was soon gone.

We laid a new Asphalt surface to the prepared area, which was then sealed with a CCE sealant. This sealant is required to prevent the resin from leaching into the Asphalt.
The sealant was left to cure over night, the next day the crew returned to install the resin bonded surface. The Rugby School preferred a rounded aggregate, and in the past had had Golden Pea which is no longer available, we advised the school of the closest match, Brittany Bronze. The resin bonded surface was installed by the afternoon, the weather was perfect if not a little warm and after a couple of hours the resin had “cured off.” This enabled us to sweep the new resin surface that afternoon.
CCE Driveways left site, job done. The driveway looked lovely and would provide an easily maintained surface that would compliment the house for years to come. Mike Smith of Rugby School came to see the driveway and was delighted with our work.
We look forward to working for Rugby School again in the not too distant future.

CCE Driveways enjoy nothing more than a project close to home, and were delighted when Edward Stevens of the Barnsley House Hotel, in Barnsley Gloucestershire asked if we could help with a problem area in the hotel. The area was a pathway which led from the hotel to the hotel’s spa. This path was originally laid with bark, the problem being that when the guests used the path to get to and from the spa on wet day’s the bark stained their foot wear and water held in the surface. It was also not easy to walk on when wet or dry.

CCE Driveways solution was to remove the bark to the compacted sub-surface. and re-instate the pathway with a resin bound surface. The client wanted the aggregate mix to ”match in” with the loose stone courtyard to the front of hotel and this required CCE Driveways to make a bespoke blend. The results were perfect, the guests of the hotel now have a pathway which is easy to traverse, clean, and will never puddle as it’s porous. The hotel have a pathway that looks god and requires little, if any maintenance.

Great job all round.
CCE Driveways were approached by the owners of a family home in Mumbles, West Wales. They had their new built house built in the grounds of their old home.

This project had had it’s fair share of teething troubles, and Mike Sugg, Managing Director of CCE Driveways paid a site visit to review the needs of the clients. He assured the clients that CCE Driveways would install the new Tarmacadam surface and resin bonded surface with the minimum of disruption.
The remit consisted of two driveways, one to the old house, one to the new new with a timber fence separating the two. The clients wanted contrasting aggregates for the driveways. They chose a 2-5mm Brittany Bronze for the old home and a 2-5mm Rhine Gold for the new house.
Tarmac surfacing commenced on a bright sunny Tuesday and was completed the next day, with the crews then sealing the Tarmac ready for the resin bonding the following day, weather permitting.

The sealant “cured” overnight, and the resin bonded commenced, and all went as planned. The driveway was left to harden over the weekend before being swept. Once swept on the Monday the transformation was amazing, the clients were delighted with end product. The driveways had been transformed in less than a week from the hardcore drives to the end result. One step closer to the along awaited day of moving in and making the new house a home.
The Coln Lakes are situated on the borders of the Cotswolds, just two miles from the old market town of Lechlade, Gloucestershire. The Lakes have been developed by John Hitchcox, and the four bedroomed homes were designed by Phillpe Starck.
CCE -Driveways were asked by Tithegrove Landscapes, a company we have worked for on many occasions, to undertake the resin bonded surface specified for the foot-paths and driveways. The clients wanted a high quality, hard wearing surface that requires little maintenance, and the resin bonded system was perfect for this particular situation.

The aggregate of choice was 2-5mm Brittany Bronze, a rounded aggregate that is sympathetic to the lake side environment. Work was completed on time and with minimal disruption to the residents.
Gloucester Quays has been a major re-generation of the old historic Gloucester Docks. It has a new design outlet centre, superstore, waterways museum and antiques centre, and restaurants.
The docks form part of the conservation area of Gloucester and are dominated by the Victorian warehouses, some of which have been restored and redeveloped as offices, apartments and visitor attractions.
Driveways UK were approached by the international designer Katayoun Dowlatshahi who asked for advice and suggestions for the pedestrian surfaces; Mike Sugg, Managing Director of Driveways UK suggested a resin bound surface, as it would provide a decorative surface which would be virtually maintenance free, hard-wearing and with careful choice of aggregate harmonize with the surrounding building. The aggregate mix was chosen by Katayoun.
Work was carried out in stages, with all works now complete. We look forward to continuing our working relationship with Britannia Construction Ltd. the main contractor at Gloucester Quays.
