CCE Driveways – Lechlade, Gloucestershire

The Coln Lakes are situated on the borders of the Cotswolds, just two miles from the old market town of Lechlade, Gloucestershire.  The Lakes have been developed by John Hitchcox, and the four bedroomed homes were designed by Phillpe Starck.

CCE -Driveways were asked by Tithegrove Landscapes, a company we have worked for on many occasions, to undertake the resin bonded surface specified for the foot-paths and driveways.  The clients wanted a high quality, hard wearing  surface that requires little maintenance, and the resin bonded system was perfect for this particular situation.

The aggregate of choice was 2-5mm Brittany Bronze, a rounded aggregate that is sympathetic to the lake side environment.  Work was completed on time and with minimal disruption to the residents.

CCE Driveways- Gloucester Quays

Gloucester Quays has been a major re-generation of the old historic Gloucester Docks.  It has a new design outlet centre, superstore, waterways museum and antiques centre, and restaurants.

The docks form part of the  conservation area of Gloucester and are dominated by the Victorian warehouses, some of which have been restored and redeveloped as offices, apartments and visitor attractions.

Driveways UK were approached by the international designer Katayoun Dowlatshahi who asked for advice and suggestions for the pedestrian surfaces;  Mike Sugg,  Managing Director of Driveways UK suggested a resin bound surface, as it would provide a decorative surface which would be virtually maintenance free, hard-wearing and with careful choice of aggregate harmonize with the surrounding building.  The aggregate mix was chosen by Katayoun.

Work was carried out in stages, with all works now complete.   We look forward to continuing our working relationship with Britannia Construction Ltd.  the main contractor at Gloucester Quays.

CCE Driveways Royal Opera House Production Park, London

The Royal Opera House Production Park in Purfleet is nearing completion.

Resin Surfacing

The works involved renovation to the Grade 2 listed,  High House Farm and buildings dating back to the Tudor times, which had stood empty since the 70’s.  The buildings will house the departments that make the props, sets, and costumes for the London venue.  The Royal Opera Production Park  also includes industrial units and businesses involved with the arts, function and conference spaces restaurants and galleries for local artists.  In short a great space to inspire creative work, relax,  and enjoy a good coffee.

Driveways UK were invited by Toppesfield Surfacing Ltd. to install the resin bonded surface to the Tarmacadam footpaths and cycleways.  The resin bonded surface is perfect for pedestrian areas, having anti-slip properties, hard wearing and requires minimum maintenance.  The aggregate of choice was 2-5mm Golden Beach, a warm golden colour that looks wonderful and enhances the surrounding ares softening the impact of the pedestrian areas.

CCE Driveways-Le Manoir Aux Quat Saison, Oxfordshire

Main Driveway

CCE Driveways were proud to be asked to re-surface the driveway, courtyard and footpaths to the renowned hotel, Le Manor Aux Quat’ Saison in Oxfordshire.  The hotel is the “flag-ship” of the Orient -Express group created by the celebrated chef Raymond Blanc OBE.

CCE Driveways first installed a resin bonded surface to the hotels driveways and courtyard some 8 years ago.  With the constant flow of guests and delivery vehicles the surface was in need of an uplift.

The existing resin surface was “scabbled” off, and after under taking a few remedial works to the tarmac surface, work began on the re-instatement of the resin bonded aggregate.  The hotel had again chosen the 2-5mm Corn Flint aggregate.  Corn Flint is a lovely golden colour, that blends beautifully with the mellow Cotswold stonework of the hotel buildings.

Resin Bonded Surfacing to Courtyard

The work was completed with no fuss and no disruption to the hotel and it’s guests. As the pictures show the results were out standing, the hotel looked resplendent

CCE Driveways-Combat Stress Therapeutic Garden,H4H

Combat Stress Therapeutic Garden  Wins Silver Medal!!

Cirencester Civil Engineering (CCE Driveways) were first approached by Dorinda Wolfe Murray of Independent Gardening Limited who asked for advice about  resin surfacing for the garden being designed for this years Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.  Mike Sugg (MD) decided that instead of just installing the paths for the garden he would help with the “build up” he felt the cause a worthy one.  As it turned out CCE Ltd became the main sponsor and contractor.

Fi Boyle, of  Fi Boyle Garden Design based in Wiltshire, designed the garden.  Fi’s husband, a former army officer had suffered both a head injury and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) following an accident a few years ago.  This gave Fi a very personal and intimate understanding of the need of those effected by PTSD and TBI.

The garden has been designed to be used by ex Service personnel, under going treatment for PTSD and other psychological wounds at the Combat Stress’ headquarters in Leatherhead.  It has been designed to be gentle and flowing.  The pathway was chosen to be smooth textured so Mike advised the resin bound system.  A mellow honey coloured aggregate mix was decided on to compliment the central spiral dry stone wall.

Work got underway in mid June, the garden soon started to come together under the supervision of Mike and Lee White his Contracts Manager.  Dave Dawe of  Spade Oak Limited offered his company services to undertake some of the ground works.  The weather was dry and hot but work continued in ernest right up until Fi’s last  planting on Sunday ready for Monday’s judging.

To every ones joy and delight the garden was awarded a Silver Medal.  Fi who has only recently graduated from The Garden Design School last year was ecstatic.

CCE Driveways enjoyed every momement of the building of the garden, also leading a hand with planting, watering, liaising with nurseries to source plants etc. We forged a strong friendship with Fi and Dorinda and look forward to working with them in the future.

Fi and Dorinda’s testimonial to CCE Limited :

Our fantastic major sponsor and contractor without whom the garden could not have been completed.  Their endless patience, humour and attention to detail make them a delight to work with.  CCE Ltd can undetake all of your hard landscaping requiements and can offer a personalized design facilty.  All work finished to a very high standard.

When the show has finished,  the Combat Stress Therapeutic Garden is to be dismantled and moved to the Tyrwhitt House, Leatherhead where the veterans under going treatment can use and enjoy the garden.

CCE Driveways – London

The Royal Hospital, Chelsea

Designed by Christopher Wren, The Royal Hospital was commissioned by and founded in 1682 by King Charles II for the veteran soldiers,  ”broken by age and war.”   Little has changed in the long history of the Royal Hospital, it has become a national institution and remains a remarkable and historical building.  It is the home  of the Chelsea Pensioners,  veterans of war.

Understandably, Driveways UK were highly delighted to be asked by Mark Gibbs, of Gibbs Surfacing Limited, Swindon, to get involved with the surfacing works to the “Figure Court”  this is one of the oldest and prominent areas of the Royal Hospital.  Figure Court is where the golden statue of King Charles II stands proud, hence the name.

The clients Norland Managed Services had seen the pathways that Driveways UK had installed at North and South Gardens in Cadogan Square, London and wanted the same product to be installed at the the Royal Hospital.  Driveways UK, working closely with Gibbs Surfacing agreed to install a sample panel, for final approval by Norlands.

Work commenced on site in early March, with Driveways UK working along side Gibbs, who were to lay some 2,205 square metres of new Tarmacadam. Driveways UK followed on behind installing the resin bound aggregate on the tarmac.  Works ran smoothly under the careful supervision of Lee White, our Contracts Manager,  and the proffessional approach to the work by the crews.  Everyone agreed that the new surface looked fantastic.  It would require minimal maintenance, with  just an occasional sweep if required.

Driveways UK would like to thank Gibbs Surfacing and Norlands Managed Services for the opportunity of working for the wonderful institution that is the Royal Hospital.

Our crews would also like to say thank you to the Lord Lieutenant, who invited the lads to share breakfast with the Pensioners in the Great Hall.  It was an honour and will be remembered for years to come.  We look forward to returning to undertake further works in the near future.

CCE-Driveways – Cardiff Bay Wales

Roald Dahl Plass, Cardiff Bay

Roald Dahl, South Deck, before

The Roald Dahl Plass is an important land mark in Wales.  The area was once a thriving dock, but with decline of the coal industry it is now part of the Millenium Centre and recently developed for Cardiffs’  bid for  “European Capital of Culture”.  It is often used to host concerts and cultural events through out the year, and welcomes many hundreds of visitors.

Driveways UK were invited to tender for this section of works and were successful, and duly installed approximately 730 square metres of resin bounded surfacing with the Cardiff  Harbour Authorities choice of colour.  The client was very nervous about this type of surfacing due to earlier failures with other contractors work, but due to the professional and expert installation by Driveways UK, they are completely happy with the results and are now considering replacement of the defective surfacing installed by others.

Roald Dahl, South Deck, after

The works were completed on time and on budget, just in time for the start of a fun run in aid of Sport Relief, two days after works were completed.  If you looked very quickly, the ares could be seen on BBC News!

CCE Driveways – Dorset

Driveways UK – North Dorset

Driveways UK were requested to visit a site in North Dorset, a beautiful old farm that had been lovingly renovated by the owners.  The only major works to undertake was the resin surfacing to the courtyard and driveway past  the stable area.

The owners wanted a surface that was hard wearing, easily maintained, but looked and sounded like a loose gravel drive.   It needed to enhance and compliment the surrounding farm buildings, and so Driveways UK suggested a number of different aggregates, the owner settled on a 3-6mm Dobbs Weir.

The existing tarmac surface was sealed with a Driveways UK sealant, and the courtyard and drive was surfaced with resin bonded aggregate.  The crew returned the next day to sweep the loose aggregate, leaving the finished surface.  The driveway and courtyard looked wonderful, the owners were very happy with the results.

CCE Driveways – Snowshill,Gloucestershire

NATIONAL TRUST SNOWSHILL MANOR, SNOWSHILL, GLOUCESTERSHIRE RESURFACING

Snowshill Gloucesters resurfacing

Snowshill Manor is a traditional Cotswold manor set in a lovely village over looking the Vale of Evesham.

The pathways through the estate were originally chalk and were subject to weather erosion; they required constant maintenance to ensure safe passage for the many visitors that came to view the house and landscaped gardens during the open months.

Cirencester Civil Engineering was asked to address the problem with the pathways. The works involved edging the pathways with timber and putting in drainage channels to remove excess water. The paths were laid with Tarmacadam, and a resin bonded surface was laid using a 1-3mm Corn Flint aggregate. The aggregate was carefully chosen by the Trust to blend into its environment.

The Trust and management at Snowshill Manor are delighted with the results. The surface to the paths are now non slip and relatively maintenance free, and the buggy which is used to transport the less able bodied visitors up to the Manor and back has a much smoother journey up and down the pathways.

CCE is looking forward to a continued working relationship with the National Trust.

CARDIFF CASTLE BATTLEMENTS AND COURTYARDS RESURFACING

CARDIFF CASTLE BATTLEMENTS AND COURTYARDS RESURFACING

Driveways UK were asked by Landcraft Projects Limited to undertake the resin bonded surfacing works at Cardiff Castle. We were required to surface the battlements and the courtyards to the castle.

Work commenced with the sealing of the concrete surfaces of the Battlements with Driveways UK sealant. This surface was then laid with 1-3mm Corn Flint resin bonded aggregate. It was a difficult remit, having to take all the materials up to the battlements, CCE soon “got stuck in” and surfaced approximately 1,976m2 all around the Castle.

Next phase was to repair the old and damaged Tarmac in the courtyard; this would ensure that the heavily pedestrian trafficked areas would last much longer that just being surfaced straight over. The new Tarmac area was laid and then sealed with an acrylic sealant. The same aggregate 1-3mm Corn Flint was bonded in resin to an area of approximately 1,422m2.

At the same time a new area had been constructed by others called the “Interpretation Centre”. This also needed surface dressing. Drivways UK  laid the 10mm open grade surface course (Tarmac), sealed again with the acrylic sealant and applied the 1-3mm Corn Flint aggregate to approximately 657m2.

The areas were swept and the Castle opened to the public with the works complete and on time.
