Driveways Resin Bonded | Resin Surfacing UK national installers

Although “resin surfacing” is a relative newcomer to the repertoire of the surfacing contractor, it is the method which offers most flexibility and widespread appeal.

Surfacing with resin, is not quite as it sounds, insofar as the resin used does not really form the finished article, but is the binder which holds the decorative and hard wearing aggregates in place.

There are a number of different types of resins, each with their good and bad points. However, we use only two types, being epoxy resins and polyurethane resins.

Over the years we have used predominately epoxy resins, but with the move towards more “eco-friendly” products, we have taken the step of moving more toward the polyurethane products. Both types of resin binder work very well and are both strong and flexible.

Resin surfacing was originally developed as an “anti-skid” product on the highway, providing the ability to install a very tough and abrasive resistant surface to an already installed tarmac or concrete surface, without any implication to the existing levels, the resin and aggregate surface, usually being no more than 3-4mm thick.

However, it was soon apparent that this type of surfacing could offer a whole range of options to Architects and Designers, to enhance existing properties and new projects alike.

However, the resin binders used on highways were originally very strong, but somewhat inflexible and while this offered great strength to hold the aggregate in place, it was not flexible enough to resist the expansion and contraction forced on them and subsequently the surface would be prone to crack.

Development of the resin binders over the years have seen a better balance of strength and flexibility, which creates a surface which is both strong and flexible, providing a long lasting and decorative surface.

Whilst many resin binders are very similar, in colour and performance, there still differences in this balance of strength and flexibility, with different manufacturers. We believe we have found the right materials, which give the best all round performance.

Resin bonded and bound surfacing gives a natural looking surface, hard wearing and relatively inexpensive to install, with minimal disruption to existing driveways.

The range of aggregates available for use in resin surfacing, makes the choice of colour and texture almost limitless.
